Ashlee Bushee

Hi! I’m Ashlee Bushee pronounced (Boo-shay) and for most of my childhood I received a lot of jokes about being related to Bobby Bouche (Adam Sandler in The Waterboy). I started college and my career in accounting, and while I met my life partner there I couldn’t imagine my life at a ten key. I have always been interested in science and when I was at this life flux a budding sustainability movement was on the rise, and I chose to switch to chemistry to learn more about life at the smallest level. I earned my Bachelor of Science in Chemistry and a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education from the University of Nevada Reno in 2017. Feeling more at home talking and educating about science rather than in my lab attire I chose to pursue a master’s in STEM education at UT Austin. Having more questions than answers still rolling around in my mind. I am now preparing to take the leap and start my PhD journey at UT in science communication and hope to learn more ways that communication and media can be effective for breaking scientific barriers. I love deep dives into scientific topics and thinking of how language, media and art can be used to bring science in unexpected ways and places to help more people look at the world with curiosity and ask questions, without fear of the answers. I am excited to be one of the chemical writers for Lab Alley and to share engaging topics about the world we exist within each week.
